Brighton High School Work Plan

As part of our service delivery there are some elements that our standard. They are as follows:

  • 1:1 intakes of our students, assessing current needs, strengths and leadership interests Meeting forums and individual consultations w/ administrators, faculty or staff

  • Crisis intervention on behalf of any Leaders student as well as general support in this regard to the building

  • Due diligence which includes continuous monitoring w/ administrators, faculty or staff of our students grades, attendance, class behavior, work output, suspension or expulsion hearings, health issues, family experiences etc.

  • Events that provide opportunities for our students to demonstrate their skills In addition, we hope our group programming for this year would feature the following:

* In follow up to 2 pilot initiatives launched last year, we would like to launch this new initiative. An evidence based practice of a Cross Age Mentoring program between our 11th and 12th graders and the 8th graders at the Jackson Mann middle school. The mentoring group would support the education of 8th graders by high school students on the statistics, and resistance from high risk behaviors as well as coaching mentorees on chosen positive outlets.

* We will continue to run our Women and Men's groups who will be engaged in the cross mentoring program as well. These students will be trained on the statistics, and resistance from high risk behaviors. In addition, each of these groups will participate in a sub group focused on anger management, and substance abuse.

* We will continue to run our Community Service group which will also be engaged in the cross mentoring program. They will focus on coaching mentorees on chosen positive outlets.

* We will continue our United Leaders group which focuses on substance abuse prevention and the social norms campaign therein. Last year this group presented workshops to each (2nd semester) freshmen health class. We would like to see the United Leaders work continue and perhaps expand with this year's freshmen classes.

* The continuance of our 10th grade advisory program piloted for the 1st time last year.

Each facet of our programming is part of the whole picture of what Leaders offers. We have had good relationships with faculty and administrators which has allowed us to hold this level of work. Likewise, we have had a history of strong relationships with students. It is this relationship with students that we leverage to call for greater compliance with class homework, grade/test attentiveness, attendance, timeliness, and the general responsibility of a designated member of each class.

With these efforts we are confident that not only will we see an increase in our 81% graduation rate from last year, but we will also see a stronger decrease in the dropout rate, increased level of student-school connectedness, strengthened academic progress, and enhanced and increased positive school relationships.
