Dennie M. Butler-MacKay, LICSW
While inspiring students to reach their dreams, Leaders of
Tomorrow President & CEO, Dennie Butler-Mackay, moves one step
closer to fulfilling a dream she had years ago.
Dennie
Butler-MacKay is the visionary, guiding spirit and pillar of strength
behind Leaders of Tomorrow.
A Licensed Social Worker with a bachelor's
degree in Education from Briar Cliff College and a master's degree in
Social Work from Boston University, Dennie has devoted her entire
professional life to working with children, adolescents and young
adults to help them prepare for, as well as overcome, challenges facing
them in school, at home, and in their community. Building on
her experiences as a Clinical Social Worker with a mental health
clinic and Faculty positions in Social Work studies with Wheelock
College and Boston University, Dennie has channeled her energies and
her passion for the healthy social and emotional development of young
people towards the creation of Leaders of Tomorrow; offering a
school-based prevention program that seeks to reduce at-risk behaviors
and facilitate academic progress by focusing on leadership development.
Dennie's
single-minded focus on identifying and implementing alternative
personal development opportunities that guide young people through the
minefields of urban educational and social life has brought Leaders of
Tomorrow in seven short years from concept to reality, from a proposal
to offer counseling and leadership training in Boston's public schools,
to a full-fledged program staffed and funded in two schools with plans
underway for expansion.
Augmenting her work at Leaders, Dennie
continues to teach social work courses and advise students at Boston
University's School of Social Work. In her spare time, Dennie enjoys
playing percussion (drums in particular), and finding other ways to
engage spirit.
